Swish

moving forward,
spinning backward,
the ball
abandons the
out-stretched arms
that direct its cambered course.

in a majestic
arc, born of
long discipline,
it nears its narrow
goal; rising and falling,
turning in flight.

then follows this sound,
for one swift second:
the resonance of
rubber on rope;
the knotted net
collapsing as
the orange orb
falls victorious
through the very heart
of its intended target.
