On a Bicycle
when he spies that I am watching,
(an audience of one),
he is suddenly determined
that he will not be undone
in his efforts to impress me
with his prowess and his skill;
he pedals down the precipice:
(a gently sloping hill).
and though he should look forward
his head turns back to me
for what he has accomplished
he’s wanting me to see!
the whole world could be watching
yet there is only one;
but that one is his father
and the peddler is my son.
